It is estimated that 20% of water consumption is related to various leaks in houses and distribution networks. Therefore, the associated losses exceed a billion Euros every year.
Although water accounts for only 0.8% of the overall household budget, household consumption with watering systems and swimming pools can reach a yearly cost of over one thousand Euros. A leak that goes undetected and is therefore not repaired, can result in the owner being invoiced for several thousand Euros.
Costs associated with the most common leaks (at 3 € per m³ of water)
A leaking toilet flush costs between 200 and 600 € per annum
Water seepage on a tap costs 400 € per annum for 15 litres per hour
A watering system consumes from between 1.5 and 2 m³ of water per hour. Therefore the cost is 6 € approximately per hour in the event of a defect or when left open.
An invisible underground leak or a swimming pool leak is often only identified when an excessive water bill is received, which can often range from between 1000 and 5000 Euros, depending on the case.
These figures are not too excessive, with the average price for water varying from around 3 € per m³ in France and nearly 6 € per m³ in many EU countries.
Building industry professionals are showing a growing interest for Hydrelis' solutions, enabling water loss in public and private installations to be reduced.
